Standards Compliance

This web site has been built in accordance with the best practices for accessibility and web standards and complies with the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

All pages are written in XHTML 1.1 and use CSS for visual layout. If your browsing device doesn't understand stylesheets, the content will still be accessible.

All pages conform to Level AAA compliance as specified by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 and endorsed by the Royal National Institute for the Blind. I have sought to obey the spirit of the UK Disability Discrimination Act 1995 with respect to the provision of services online, as required by the Disability Rights Commission.

Each page uses well-structured semantic markup. For instance, header tags like <h1>, <h2>, <h3>, etc. are used to logically structure the content. Users of the JAWS screenreader can skip between header tags using ALT+INSERT+1, ALT+INSERT+2, etc.

Navigation

At the start of every page are invisible links providing direct access to content, navigation and the accessibility statement, each with accesskeys. When keyboard-navigating, however, the links become visible - try tabbing through the links on the page.

Many internet users with disabilities find website difficult or even impossible to use simply because of the way they are designed. This website has been designed to be as accessible as possible and to be compatible with the types of adaptive technology used by people with disabilities, including screen readers. As such, visitors can control the size of the text and can use 'access keys' on the keyboard rather than the mouse to navigate through pages.
